Talks over Assange impasse

TALKS are due to take place today aimed at resolving the impasse over WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is holed up in the UK Ecuadorian embassy.

Ecuador Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino hopes to meet Foreign Secretary William Hague in New York on the 100th day since Assange walked into the building in London.

He claims he will be sent to the US, if he goes to Sweden for questioning over sex assault allegations.

An Ecuadorian official said it is hoped the meeting will be "a new chapter in seeking a solution to the situation.

"We are more than willing to find an answer that respects the values of international human rights and the integrity of sovereign nations."
