PUPILS at Stockbridge Primary School in Edinburgh had a change to their normal menu after being invited to taste periwinkles.

Here, youngster Flora tries the delicacy, part of a project which saw fisherman Roderick Sloan show pupils how to enjoy winkles, the long-forgotten seaside treat. He described his life fishing for sea-urchins, which he supplies to the world's top restaurants including Noma in Copenhagen, and encouraged the youngsters to think about eating more shellfish.
