Teenage girl jumps into canal to escape sex attacker

A schoolgirl had to jump into a canal to escape a sex attacker in broad daylight, police say.

The 15-year-old was walking along the Union Canal path near Ratho, Edinburgh after getting off a number 12 bus at around 4.45pm yesterday when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her.

When she turned round the man was exposing himself so she struggled free and ran back towards Ratho, the girl told police.
