The Forth bridges the gap

THE bridge of the £6 billion aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth passes under the Forth Bridge en route to Babcock's Rosyth Dockyard in Fife, where the vessel is being assembled.

The "forward island" was constructed in Portsmouth by BAE Systems and set sail on its 500-mile journey four days ago. As well as the bridge, the 700-tonne section also houses a mess and pantry, chart house, stores and accommodation for the captain and navigation staff.
