THE King's Theatre in Glasgow is to reveal a tribute to the late Scottish actor and comedian Gerard Kelly.

The memorial to Kelly will be unveiled next Monday, a permanent tribute to what the theatre said was the "great Gerard Kelly on what would have been his 54th birthday".

After his death in 2010, a fund was set up for those who wished to contribute towards something that would commemorate Kelly and his link with the King's.

The theatre will unveil a pair of bronze boots cast from a pair of Kelly's Doc Marten lace-ups. The statue, similar to Billy Connolly's Big Banana Boots, will be placed on the landing leading up to the grand circle.

General manager James Haworth said: "In the end we chose what we thought would be a very fitting tribute to Kelly and something that would raise a smile on the faces of our audiences and the people who loved him, and something that will stand proud in the King's."
