Police are investigating after thieves stole £16,000 of shortbread.

The lorry and trailer full of biscuits were taken from a company based at Midmill Industrial Estate, Kintore, Aberdeenshire, on Saturday.

Police Scotland appealed for information about the incident, which happened at around 12.30am.

The vehicle and shortbread were later recovered.

A police spokesman said: "Officers have urged anyone who believes they may have seen something suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch with them.

"Police have also asked that business owners take extra care to lock all yard areas and take basic crime prevention steps to secure their property."
