THE association representing the UK's travel agents has revealed a list of the top honeymoon locations for gay couples who can now legally marry.

Brighton, Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, Cape Town in South Africa, San Francisco in the US, the Greek Islands, Sitges in Spain, Miami and the Florida Keys in the US, Tel Aviv in Israel and Phuket in Thailand are named.

About 7000 same-sex couples enter into a civil partnership each year and many are expected to get married, with the first ceremonies taking place over this past weekend.

The Association of British Travel Agents is advising newlyweds to consider researching destinations before they travel.

A statement said: "Whilst some destinations are openly LGBT-friendly, some may be less welcoming, and in others there may be serious safety issues to consider."

It also said to check Foreign Office advice.
