A number of rail services in the Greater Glasgow area were delayed or cancelled from around 7am yesterday after heavy rain overnight waterlogged the tracks on routes between Anniesland and Westerton. Services from Dalmuir to Motherwell and Lanark were also subject to short-notice cancellations until around 11am.
Motorists in the west also faced lengthy traffic jams and diversions. The A737 in Renfrewshire, between Howwood and Kilbarchan, was closed in both directions from 4am due to flooding on the road.
Traffic Scotland also advised motorists to take care on all routes in Dumfries and Galloway and the A9 near Greenloaning, due to surface water, with the M74 also affected.
Forecasters said the recent mild weather was expected to turn colder towards next week. Dan Williams, of the Met Office, said: "It looks unsettled into the weekend."
