TWO new open-top bus routes in the Highlands have been unveiled despite being located in one of the wettest parts of the country.

Starting next week, bus company Stagecoach will operate from Fort William and Skye until September 7.

The Fort William bus will travel north to Spean Bridge and the Commando Memorial via the Nevis Range Visitor Centre. The bus will also travel to Glen Nevis before returning to Fort William.

"The Lochaber area is one of great natural beauty so it is very exciting for us to be able to give passengers the chance to admire the area from the top deck of our open-top bus," Stagecoach in the Highlands managing director Steve Walker said.

"The whole route will offer spectacular views of Ben Nevis and its neighbouring hills and mountains and is a fantastic journey to be discovered from a different perspective."

The open-top tour will cost £8 for a dayrider, hop-on hop-off ticket. It will run Tuesdays to Sundays.

The Skye bus tour will start in the island capital of Portree and visit attractions including Dunvegan Castle, the Museum of Island Life and the Old Man of Storr.

Weather permitting, passengers should get views of Cuillin Ridge near Sligachan as well as Kilt Rock on the Trotternish Peninsula.

It will also run as an £8 hop-on hop-off deal.

The bus will operate every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and every day during the school holidays.
