Trees help pollution battle

Trees in the Edinburgh help to remove an estimated 100 tonnes of pollution from the air every year, according to new analysis.

A study looked at how much carbon dioxide is absorbed from the atmosphere by capital's 600,000 trees and found the economic impact of removing airborne pollution is estimated to be worth around £2.3 million.

The study was carried out by Forestry Commission Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council. Paul Wheelhouse, Environment and Climate Change Minister, said: "Urban trees are the lungs of our capital.
