Tributes to fossil hunter Stan Wood

TRIBUTES were paid after the death of famous Scots fossil hunter Stan Wood, who discovered the reptile West Lothian Lizzie.

Mr Wood's Fossils shop, now run by geologist Matt Dale, has been an attraction in Edinburgh's Grassmarket for 25 years after being founded by the former insurance salesman.

The fossil hunter from Selkirk in the Borders, who was said to be in his seventies, was still out searching for finds a few months ago, despite being diagnosed with cancer last year.

Mr Wood, described as "a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, friend and famous fossil hunter", died peacefully at home on September 9.
