Iglu restaurant in Edinburgh was named Scottish Sustainable Restaurant of the Year at an awards ceremony held at London's Borough Market.
The Bay Fish and Chips in Stonehaven won the SRA Environment award, and the James Miller Room at Turnberry Resort received the SRA Society Award for its commitment to managing staff fairly. All received their awards from chef Raymond Blanc, who is SRA President.
In a UK-wide event, which for the first time was remarkable for its strong representation from Scotland, food was prepared by Neil Forbes of Cafe St Honore; Carina Contini and Suzanne O'Connor of The Scottish Cafe, both Edinburgh; and Calum Richardson of Bay Fish and Chips. All have three-star ratings from the SRA, which has more than 25 Scottish members.
Charlie Cornelius, of Iglu, said he was delighted his restaurant had been recognised after 10 years of focusing on sustainability, including sourcing produce locally from a network of social enterprises such as Loch Arthur Creamery in Dumfries and the Cyrenian Farm Community near Edinburgh.
He said: "Iglu was sorting its waste years before the law made it enforceable in January." Mr Blanc, whose own Michelin-starred restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons won the Sustainable Hotel Restaurant of the Year, also named McDonald's UK as his Sustainable Hero.
He said: "Scottish chefs and restaurants are at the forefront of the sustainable food movement, giving diners... good food that doesn't cost the earth."
