Troops would have believed they were in ‘safest place’ possible

A former British Army helicopter pilot who was stationed at the 'safe' Fort Hood military base where a soldier went on a shooting spree, today described the security breach as "absolutely shocking".

The gunman, identified as Major Nidal Malik Hasan, killed 12 people and wounded at least 31 others in a rampage at Fort Hood in Texas yesterday.
