GANGLAND violence has also flared in recent months on the east coast.

A gunman opened fire on a family home in Corstorphine, but it is suspected that he hit the wrong property.

The family inside were left shaken after shots were fired in what is believed to have been a case of mistaken identity.

It is believed the gunman had meant to target the home of a feared gangland enforcer but ended up firing at the wrong house.

The incident took place in October in Drum Brae Terrace.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after searches in connection with two shooting incidents in Edinburgh last year.

Shots were fired at a parked car in Murrays Brae and at a property in Gilmerton Dykes Drive, both in Gilmerton, on Saturday 20 September.

Police Scotland said it had carried out searches at three properties on Friday and a number of items including a firearm were seized.

Also, last year, three killers were sentenced to life in prison after they gunned down a dealer in Edinburgh.

Mohammed Abdi, 25, died from a gunshot wound to the chest from an automatic weapon following a street battle.

The shooting took place amid a feud between rival factions of a London-based Somali gang, who had been operating in Scotland.
