Donald Trump has unveiled the latest plans for his 140-bedroom hotel at his Aberdeenshire golf resort.

The design represents a change to earlier plans in 2006 which were based on a six-storey Victorian-style building.

It is also the first confirmation that what was always promoted as a 450-bedroom hotel development on the Menie Estate is to be phased.

But whether it goes ahead at all won't be known until the fate of an offshore wind farm is decided by Scottish ministers.

The £230 million 11-turbine European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), which would not be a commercial wind farm but a facility for developers to test their systems, is still being considered by ministers.

Mr Trump, whose championship golf course opened in July 2012, warned that if plans for the "ugly" wind farm proceed he would not build the hotel.

"The EOWDC application, if constructed where it is currently sited, would ruin the beauty of Aberdeen Bay, the surrounding coastline and would forever destroy tourism in the area," the American billionaire said.

A spokeswoman for Mr Trump confirmed the 140 rooms was just the start and additional accommodation is being designed.
