A CONTROVERSIAL wind farm planned for Aberdeen has been given the green light by the Scottish Government.

The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), which will have 11 turbines, has been granted its marine licence.

The development can now push ahead, but it is still tied up in court battles with business tycoon Donald Trump, who bitterly objects to the project.

An investor is also still required to finance the £203 million development, and a "mitigation scheme" must be found to calm Ministry of Defence fears over radar interference.

Mr Trump has complained the turbines will ruin the views from his golf course at Menie Estate, and has refused to spend more on the site until the turbine plans are pulled.

His opposition appears to be successful as the project has been delayed by two years and Swedish energy company Vattenfall has announced it is selling its 75 per cent stake.

The EOWDC is now expected to connect to the National Grid in 2017.
