US TYCOON Donald Trump has been embarrassed after he was tricked into sending an image of the serial killers Fred and Rosemary West to his 2.7 million followers on a social network.

Philip Bradbury passed off the picture of the couple, who between them killed dozens of girls, as his parents in a tweet to owner of the Turnberry golf resort, in Ayrshire.

Snaring Trump into a trap, he added in his message to him: "My parents who passed away always said you were big inspiration. Can you pls RT for their memory?"

The media team who run the 68-year-old multi-millionaire's official Twitter feed via @realDonaldTrump immediately retweeted the message to his 2.7 million followers.

Twitter users took to social media to congratulate the prankster.

The comedian Dom Joly tweeted to Trump: "They seem like lovely, kind caring parents, don't they Donald?"

Mark Duckett, wrote "GENIUS!!!!!", Cian Agnew called it "amazing work" and William Ellis tweeted "Just a lovely insight into the mind of a dim-witted money podgerer. Thank you and good work indeed."

Within an hour of Mr Bradbury's prank, the image had been retweeted 2,500 times.

Fred West tortured and raped numerous young women and girls,murdering at least 11 of them, including members of his own family, at the couple's homes in Gloucester.

He killed at least two people before collaborating with his wife, while Rosemary murdered Fred's step­daughter when he was in prison for theft.

Fred West committed suicide in Birmingham Prison in 1995.
