The famous name of Tunnock's will be hurtling around rally tracks across Europe following the launch of the Scottish biscuit company's first world championship rally car.

The Scottish brand will be plastered over a suped-up Ford Fiesta to be driven by Robert Barrable, 25, and Stuart Loudon, 24, grandson of Tunnock's chairman Boyd Tunnock, who was a very keen rally driver in his youth.

The car, a modified Ford Fiesta R5, was unveiled at the Tunnock's factory in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, yesterday and will be entered into this year's world championship.

It will race in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain and the UK.

The team have already taken part in the Portuguese rally, coming second in their class just behind the renowned Esapekka Lappi.

Mr Tunnock said: "I competed myself back in the 1960s, tackling many rallies around Scotland and further afield.

"Now, when I see the time, dedication and professionalism that Robert and Stuart put into the preparation for an event it is all at a different level from when I drove.

"It is great to see that a young crew like ours can show such dedication and determination to their sport, and it does remind me of the work and care we put in at the factory to ensure that our confectionary is always the very best for the customer."

He added: "It is with pride that I see the rally car carrying our colours.

"I know that Robert has the skill and ability to deliver results for us and it is as a proud grandfather that I watch Stuart develop his skills at the highest level."
