Turner Prize winner steps up to £100,000 marble makeover

It has long been called the Athens of the North and now Edinburgh is to get a new dose of marble to add to its architectural allure.

Martin Creed, the Turner Prize-winning contemporary artist based in Glasgow, is to “beautify” one of the capital’s least prepossessing stairwells, connecting Waverley Station with the Old Town, in a project costing more than £100,000.
