A 74-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man have died after a head-on crash on the A85 just outside Connel, Oban.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident around 6.30pm on Thursday, or saw a blue Vauxhall Vectra or a blue Honda CRV, to come forward.
A 32-year-old women driving the Vectra was taken by helicopter to the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, where she was detained. Her condition is described as critical but stable.
Three children in the car, aged 14, five and two, were treated for minor injuries at Oban Hospital.
The 51-year-old woman driver of the CRV and two other women, aged 49 and 46, who were passengers in the Honda, were also treated for minor injuries at Oban Hospital.
Police said details of the dead and injured would not be released meantime.
