Two men from Scotland who have been accused of attacking former Casualty and Holby City star Clive Mantle have denied the charges against them.

Philip McGilvray and Alan French, both 32, pled not guilty to wounding Mr Mantle with intent at a Travelodge on the Newcastle Quayside.

It is alleged that during the incident in March this year, the former Casualty and Game of Thrones star had part of his ear bitten off.

The two men, who are both from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, appeared by video-link at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday.

An application by prosecutor Nick Dry to delay the trial to June next year due to Mr Mantle's work commitments was rejected by Judge Paul Sloan, QC, and the case is scheduled to commence on December 3.

Both men were granted conditional bail.
