UK death toll in Afghanistan may top 400 as Sangin pull-out announced

The death toll in Afghanistan could top 400, the former head of the Army has suggested, as ministers insisted the withdrawal of troops from one of the deadliest parts of the country did not signal a retreat.

General Sir Richard Dannatt, now an adviser to David Cameron, said that almost 100 more British lives would “probably” be lost in the conflict.
