ONE of two massive horse heads sculpted out of metal is taking shape, but is already providing an eye-catching distraction for users of the nearby M9 motorway near Falkirk.

This monument will form one half of the 'kelpie' by sculptor Andy Scott. It towers almost 100 feet above the Forth & Clyde canal and will form a dramatic gateway at the eastern entrance. They will represent a homage to horse heritage across Central Scotland and will stand 100ft tall and weigh over 300 tonnes.

The two massive heads will be positioned either side of a specially constructed lock and basin, part of the redeveloped canal hub. Scott was also responsible for the Heavy Horse sculpture on the M8 in Glasgow.
