Police investigating a hit-and-run in which a cyclist was seriously injured have issued a fresh description of a van they want to trace.

The 47-year-old cyclist was knocked off his bike during a collision with a vehicle on the B822 Kippen to Fintry road, about 50 metres west of the village of Kippen in Stirlingshire

He was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with serious injuries following the collision, which happened at around 1.45pm on Saturday.

The van that police want to trace is similar to a flatbed truck and is white with writing on the doors. The front offside wing mirror is missing as a result of the incident.

Sergeant Roddy MacMillan, of the Forth Valley road policing unit, said: "We are hopeful that some motorists on the B822 on Saturday afternoon may remember seeing the white flatbed van and could have some information which may help our enquiries.

"Significantly, the front offside wing mirror was knocked off during the collision and so it is possible that, in recent days, members of the public have seen a white van with only one mirror. If so, please get in touch.

"We would, of course, also urge the driver of the van to come forward.

"The cyclist involved in this incident suffered serious injuries and we are obviously very keen to establish the exact circumstances of what happened."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who had any information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
