The popular Scottish painter Jack Vettriano has had to stop painting after dislocating his shoulder.

Vettriano had a recent accident at home and is now "unable to paint in the foreseeable future."

The self taught and very successful painter, born in Fife in 1951, has been asked in recent times whether he is producing new paintings.

He has today released a statement about his accident and pause in his artistic career.

He says: "As a result of a recent accident my right shoulder was dislocated and the reality is that I am going to be unable to paint in the foreseeable future.

"I am undertaking a course of physiotherapy but am facing a long recovery period. In the meantime I would like to thank the public for their continued support and interest."

Vettriano recently moved to Edinburgh after spending many years in London, as well as France.

In 2013 there was a major retrospective of his work at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
