The Voice finalist Stevie McCrorie has recalled the moment he saved a man's life just days before the blind auditions for the BBC1 talent contest.

The 30-year-old firefighter who is the bookies' favourite in the singing competition, spoke of one of his brave rescue missions after visiting workmates at Kirkaldy Fire Station.

McCrorie then arrived by fire engine, where he was greeted by more than 100 screaming fans.

The father-of-one, from Alva, Clackmannanshire, said he was more nervous performing than going into a blaze after he had saved a man from a burning flat.

He said: "I saved a life up in Kirkcaldy. A guy had fallen asleep and was unconscious on the floor. I pulled him out the building with one of my fellow firefighters.

"It was a downstairs small flat fire on a couch. He was fighting to get out. He was an elderly guy.

"It was just before the blind auditions. So it would have been just before October when I auditioned.

"You put a lot of emotion into performances and you get trained really well in the fire service to do your job so it is definitely more nerve-racking to go on stage.

"It was amazing to see the guys and they seemed really proud of me."

Stevie then arrived by fire engine, where he was greeted by more than 100 screaming fans.

McCrorie posed for pictures by the vehicle, took selfies with fans and signed posters with the words "Stevie to win" printed on them.

Stevie is the bookies' favourite to win ahead of Sheena McHugh and music student Emmanuel Nwamadi, who are backed in second and third places respectively. The winner will release their debut single after Saturday's live final.

He added: "I don't fear anyone but the biggest competition I feel is Emmanuel.

"I'm just hoping I can do everything I can and people pick up the phone and get me to win it.

"It's amazing, the support has been unreal. It feels like I have been living a dream."
