ILLEGAL levels of bleach that can shatter teeth have been found in whitening kits.

Police have warned bargain hunters about the dangers of buying counterfeit cosmetics.

Experts said some teeth whitening treatments contain high levels of hydrogen peroxide, which can cause teeth to shatter.

Police said gangsters are selling fake goods, including potentially harmful tanning injections and lashes laced with tiny insects.

Inspector Alan Dron, chairman of the Scottish anti-illicit trade group, said: "Criminals have no scruples. All they care about is money and it would be naive of anyone to think they care about the consequences of selling dangerous products.

"Fake goods are made in unregulated environments, without regard for health regulations."
