Warning over young in care

Not enough is being done for young people in care and cuts are making matters worse, according to an alliance of expert groups.

The Scottish Children's Services Coalition (SCSC) will tomorrow launch a 10-point plan to radically improve children's services. The event, which will be attended by Aileen Campbell, Scottish Government Minister for Children and Young People, will take place at the Scottish Parliament.

A spokesperson for the SCSC, which includes care charity Who Cares? Scotland, and education and care business Spark of Genius, said cuts and increased demand meant that the status quo could not continue.

"These pressures are placing huge burdens on councils," he said. "Increasing numbers of young people face reduced life chances including long-term unemployment or drug dependency."
