The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) said public health must be a priority and the food chain must be protected from foreign contaminants.
The Institute raised fears that local authority budget cuts may lead to fewer food safety officers, and called on councils to ensure there was no disruption to the service.
