A HAIRDRESSER who proposed to her partner in a bid to help him beat leukaemia spoke of her joy yesterday after finally tying the knot with the cancer survivor.

Last October Stephanie Smith, nee Robertson, was sitting next to boyfriend Cammy, 25, in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being told he had cancer for the second time.

Desperate to give him something to look forward to, Stephanie proposed to Cammy and her partner of two years promised he would beat leukaemia and marry her one day.

That day arrived on Saturday when the happy couple wed at Logie Country House Hotel in Pitcaple, Aberdeenshire, where the owners offered them the venue for free after hearing of their ordeal.

Stephanie said: "It was the most amazing experience in our lives, I couldn't believe the dream finally came true.

"The whole weekend was perfect. On the Friday we all had champagne, we were all in the hot tubs and it was just a really relaxed time with all our friends and family.

"On Saturday we got married and on Sunday we had a big barbecue which was a nice and relaxed way to finish off the weekend."

But it's not been an easy journey for Stephanie and Cammy - the offshore worker's condition deteriorated so many times the wedding was nearly cancelled five times.

Stephanie said: "I think proposing gave him something to look forward to and it gave him something to get fit for, but at times it was touch and go whether Cammy would make it or not."

She added that Cammy had been in hospital and "quite poorly" just days before the wedding.

Stephanie said: "I have to admit, I sometimes lost belief. There was days I tried to cancel the wedding.

"The stress was getting too much. I was constantly wondering whether he was going to make it or not and then he finally went into remission and he's doing really well now."
