THE most expensive streets in towns and cities on the west coast of Scotland have been revealed through a new survey carried out by estate agents looking at the very top end of the market.
Nithsdale Road, on the South Side of Glasgow, was said to be home to the region's most valuable homes with property transactions during the last three years topping £8 million.
Scotland's largest city boasts four out of the top five spots in a league table of high value house sales, joined by one street in the upmarket suburb of East Renfrewshire.
The league table was compiled by researchers at estate agents Savills, and covers the council areas of Glasgow, East Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire.
Altogether 15 homes were sold on Nithsdale Road between 2012 and 2014, fetching £8,663,943 in total.
This was followed by Cleveden Gardens in the city's leafy west end, where property worth a total of £5,864,000 changed hands during the same period.
Researcher Emily Dorrian said that there was some surprise that West End had not come out on top given the area's reputation as a property hotspot.
She said: "The West End has a reputation as a cultural hub and an attractive place to live, but there are substantial properties on the South Side as well and these have proven very popular.
"Nithsdale Road is also a very long road and there were simply more houses changing hands in that area during this time."
Overall, there have been 75 transactions in the South Side G41 postcode of the city during the past three years, amounting to more than £43million.
Estate agents credit the area around Nithsdale Road's popularity to the quality of housing, availability of good schools and decent transport links to the city centre, and said that residents enjoy living in Glasgow's "first and biggest garden suburb".
However, the city's West End continues to attract prospective homeowners of all ages, who are keen to sample the area's lifestyle of cafes, bars and restaurants and short access to the centre combined with large , townhouses and family homes creates a winning formula.
Chris Breckinridge, who covers the West End for Savills, said that a recent trend has been an increase in the number of people from moving from suburbs outside Glasgow to the West End.
He said: "Whilst they are 'downsizing' their property, they want quality properties and are often not downsizing in price."
St Andrew's Drive, also on Glasgow's South side, was third on the list with the total property sold coming in at £5,730,000, while Eastwoodmains Road in East Renfrewshire, came fourth at £5,580,251.
Whittingehame Drive, in Glasgow's West End, was fifth at £5,418,500.
Lanarkshire's 'millionaire's row' was said to be Silverwells Crescent, in the village of Bothwell. Taken together, the three house sales here during the last three years were worth £2,270,500. Bothwell and neighbouring Uddingston were said to be highly sought after areas because of the number of spacious properties, the country landscape and the short commute to Glasgow.
