The World Cup, Michael Schumacher and the iPhone 6 have grabbed the public's attention more than any other subject this year, according to search engine Yahoo.
The internet company's annual Year in Review, which is put together by analysing billions of searches made using Yahoo Search, found that the British public were also keen to get more information on flight MH370, which went missing in March, as well as Oscar Pistorius and Disney's Frozen.
In Yahoo's "top 10 of everything", the World Cup in Brazil came first, followed by Michael Schumacher and the iPhone 6.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Celebrity Big Brother/Big Brother, Liverpool, Frozen, flight MH370 and the Duchess of Cambridge also made the list.
In terms of news stories, UK users were most interested in Michael Schumacher following his skiing accident in Switzerland, followed by the continued mystery surrounding missing flight MH370 and Oscar Pistorius's murder trial.
Peaches Geldof, Madeleine McCann, Robin Williams, the Scottish Referendum, Rolf Harris, Ebola and Rik Mayall also featured.
Yahoo also compiled a list of "obsessions", which was again topped by the World Cup, just ahead of Apple's iPhone 6 and Frozen. Loom Bands, Jennifer Lawrence and the Ice Bucket Challenge also obsessed the British public.
in something of an upset, Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid beat the likes of Kim Kardashian, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Miley Cyrus to top the list of celebrity searches. One Direction, Beyonce and Jay-Z and Holly Willoughby also made the top 10.
In a year that saw him banned for biting for a third time, and transfer to Barcelona, Luis Suarez was the most searched for sporting star, beating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Andy Murray and Rory McIlroy to top spot.
Suarez also topped the World Cup list, with Brazilian star Neymar in second place. England's opening game of the tournament against Italy, which they lost 2-1, was third. They were followed by Lionel Messi, Roy Hodgson and Alexis Sanchez.
The political agenda has been dominated by the Scottish referendum on independence and the rise of Ukip, which occupy first and second respectively on the politics search list. Ukip leader Nigel Farage was the fourth most searched for political figure, with former Scotland first minister Alex Salmond third.
Mr Salmond's successor Nicola Sturgeon and Russian president Vladimir Putin were also among the top 10.
Apple dominates the technology list, making up half of the top 10. The iPhone 6 tops the list, with the iPad mini, iPhone 5c, yet to be launched Apple Watch and the iPad Air also making an appearance. Sony's Playstation 4 games console was second on the list, with the Samsung Galaxy S5 in third.
In the war of the soaps EastEnders was triumphant over Coronation Street, grabbing third ahead of Corrie's sixth place. Big Brother topped the list ahead of fantasy drama Game Of Thrones. Strictly Come Dancing came ahead of the X Factor in fourth.
Search engines are often used to ask questions, and Yahoo's results reveal that the most asked question of 2014 was "how to make loom bands?", the small elastic loops that are linked together to create bracelets. The second most common question was "when is Easter?", with "who killed Lucy Beale?" also on the list, and "what is my IP address?" for the second year running.
