Why freedom of speech is more important than the right to privacy

PRIME Minister David Cameron, speaking on Monday, was correct: the point reached had simply become untenable.

A search by the beginning of last weekend on micro-blogging website Twitter would reveal in seconds the identity of Ryan Giggs as the footballer at the heart of the Twitter furore.

After the Sunday Herald published his identity, and after the PM’s measured words the following day, it was obvious to all except Justice Eady and perhaps the Giggs legal team that an injunction which the English print and broadcast media had abided by had run its course.
