Brian Harvey, 49, from Arbroath, Angus, died while fishing on Sunday when the wave pulled him off rocks near Deil's Heid point, just outside the town.
His friends, Ronnie Coates and Davie Hannah, tried to throw him objects to cling on to while they phoned police, but were unable to save the father-of-three.
