Anti-wind farm campaigners are planning a march and demonstration at the SNP's spring conference in Inverness this weekend as part of their fight against what they claim is a proliferation of wind farms.

Stop Highland Windfarms Campaign (SHWC), the umbrella organisation in the Highlands has organised the event in association with Scotland Against Spin (SAS), a Scotland-wide alliance opposing wind farms.

SHWC convener, Pat Wells said: "Across Scotland, the 'David and Goliath' struggle continues and intensifies against multi-national developers and wealthy landowners who care nothing for Scotland's people or its unique natural heritage. Their sole purpose is to swell their bank accounts, with as much money as possible, regardless of the consequences."

However, a spokeswoman for the Scottish Government said: "We want to see wind turbines in the right places, guided by a planning and consent process which protects our landscapes – there are no wind farms in our national parks, and our planning policy sets out the framework for the development of wind farms to manage their impact."
