Wolfson back in profit thanks to smartphones

WOLFSON Microelectronics has returned to profit and beaten third-quarter sales targets due to the popularity of smartphones and tablets.

The Edinburgh-based audio chip maker saw revenues of $53 million (£32m) – up 31% on the $40m at this stage last year and a rise of 32% on the second quarter. Chief executive Mike Hickey said: "Revenues came in at the top end of expectations and we still have good momentum. The new products seem to be coming through much as expected."
