A woman has died and her husband left seriously hurt after they were struck by a car in a garden centre car park.
Allison Hall, 63, died in the gravel car park of MGM garden centre in Kilmarnock when she was hit by a car along with her husband George, also 63, on Saturday.
Mrs Hall was a retired home help worker from nearby Bonnyton in the town.
She was described as an avid gardener who sang in the New Laigh Kirk choir.
Her husband is being treated in Glasgow's Southern General where his condition was described as serious but stable.
The couple were crossing the car park when they were struck by a Citroen C3 at around 2.25pm.
The 51-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured.
Police are investigating the incident and have not charged anyone in connection with the death.
Tributes were paid to the pensioner by friends and bouquets of flowers placed at the side of the car parking space where she was killed.
Eleanor MacKillop, 63, a friend of 30 years, spoke as she laid a bouquet of flowers at the scene.
She said: "I can't take it in – we are all devastated. She was such a caring person, and she loved to garden.
"She was just the loveliest person with such an angelic voice. Her family must be distraught, especially with it being so close to Christmas."
The family were too upset to speak yesterday.
The manager of the garden centre declined to comment on the incident.
In a separate incident, an 83-year-old woman died after being hit by a car in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, at an accident blackspot.
The elderly woman was crossing Kirk Road, close to a Morrisons supermarket, when she was struck by a Daewoo Matiz travelling towards Cambusnethan.
The woman was taken by ambulance to nearby Wishaw General Hospital but died a few hours later.
The 80-year-old female driver was uninjured but left severely shaken by the accident.
Police closed the road for a short while after the accident, which happened just after 5pm on Saturday.
Officers from the roads department at Motherwell Police Office are carrying out a full investigation into the crash and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The A722, between Wishaw and Newmains in Lanarkshire, which takes in Kirk Road, was last year named as one of the most dangerous roads in Scotland.
A report by the Road Safety Foundation listed the three-mile stretch as one of only eight Scottish roads in the "high risk" category.
Those living on the street, which begins at Kirk Road and snakes its way to Hope Street in Newmains, have called for further parking and traffic restrictions.
Motorists travelling along the route first must contend with a large roundabout outside Morrisons on Kirk Road which is before the brow of a hill.
They then have to negotiate a twisting road that includes mini-roundabouts, temporary roadworks and traffic lights before reaching Cambusnethan.
There are also several blind spots where drivers cannot see traffic coming over the hill.
A police spokeswoman said: "Around 5.05pm, a 83-year-old woman was crossing Kirk Road in Wishaw, close to Morrisons supermarket, when she was struck by a Daewoo Matiz which was travelling towards Cambusnethan.
"The woman was taken by ambulance to nearby Wishaw General Hospital but sadly she died a few hours later.
"Officers from the Road Policing Department at Motherwell are carrying out a full investigation into the crash."
