A woman who fell from a cliff has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Emergency services crews were scrambled to Hawkcraig Point, below the Forth View Hotel in Aberdour in Fife at 9.50pm yesterday .

The woman fell approximately 40 feet onto rocks and suffered serious head injuries, a spokeswoman for the ambulance service said.

She was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.

The fire service had crews from Burntisland, Dunfermline and a specialist rope rescue team from Lochgelly at the scene.

A spokesman said: "The emergency rescue team consisting of 26 Scottish Fire and Rescue personnel, the coastguard, inshore lifeboat, police and Scottish Ambulance Service worked to stabilise the casualty and carry her to waiting ambulance."

Police are investigating the incident.
