Woman killed on A90 is named

POLICE have named a 20-year-old woman who was found dead next to a major road in Aberdeenshire.

APPEAL: Charlotte Tennant had been walking by road.

The body of Charlotte Louise Tennant, from the Laurencekirk area, was found close to the A90 at Laurencekirk at around 8am on Saturday morning.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of her death, but Grampian Police have said her injuries suggest she had been struck by a vehicle.

It is believed Ms Tennant was walking on the stretch of the A90 between Fordoun and Laurencekirk, which is approximately nine miles north of Stracathro services, between 4am and 5am on Saturday morning.Officers are working to piece together the circumstances leading up to the incident and are following up on calls from members of the public.Police are appealing for witnesses and have said Ms Tennant as wearing dark-coloured jeans, a white T-shirt, a light blue denim shirt and white trainers.The A90 was closed for several hours as investigators attended the scene, with diversions put in place for motorists. Detective Chief Inspector Alex Dowall said: "A young woman has died as a result of this tragic incident and all of our thoughts are with Charlotte's family at this sad and extremely difficult time. "The investigation is continuing with a team of officers working to piece together the circumstances leading up to this incident. "At this stage her injuries do appear to be consistent with having been struck by a vehicle. "We believe Charlotte was walking on the stretch of the A90 between Fordoun and Laurencekirk, which is approximately nine miles north of Stracathro services, between 4am and 5am on Saturday morning. "I am grateful to the members of the public who have contacted us so far and we have officers following up on those calls today. "I would however, like to renew our appeal for anyone who may have seen Charlotte on this section of the A90 to contact us as soon as possible."
