A WOMAN has died despite a desperate attempt to save her after she was seen in the River Clyde close to the Glasgow Science Centre.

Police and the coastguard were alerted to the dis-covery of the body at around 9.25am yesterday.

The 38-year-old woman was pulled from the water by a Helensburgh-based coastguard station officer on the Glasgow City Council specialist river clean-up boat St Mungo.

The woman was taken to Prince's Dock where paramedics tried in vain to resuscitate her.

A post-mortem examination was due to have taken place yesterday.

Strathclyde Police are currently treating the death as unexplained.

Mark Bailey saw events unfold. He said: "I was taking my son to the Science Centre when I saw what I thought was someone being taken on the boat.

"It's horrible it has all turned out badly and your thoughts can only be with loved ones and relatives at this time."
