A WOMAN is suing the landlords of an office building after claiming she was injured trying to avoid being attacked by a gull.

Cathie Kelly, 59, has launched the action at the Court of Session in Edinburgh against the landlords of a former Victorian school in Greenock, Inverclyde. The project officer alleges that Riverside Inverclyde (Property Holdings) did not take sufficient care for her safety.

Ms Kelly, 45, of Glasgow, had gone out to get something to eat. She said she was forced to return to her office to take refuge after being confronted by a gull "screaming at her", leaving her terrified it would peck at her face. Mrs Kelly, who had flat loafers on, turned as she tried to get to the building, but a shoe came off and she stumbled on to the steps.

Mrs Kelly stands to receive £7000 damages if Riverside Inverclyde is judged entirely liable for the incident, in 2010. It denies the claim and argues she was partly at fault after failing to look where she was putting her feet.

The hearing continues.
