A WOMAN has told of the agony of tearing her corneas while wearing a pair of fancy dress contact lenses.

Nicola Cavanagh, 42, from Dundee bought a pair of cat contact lenses for Hallowe'en, but struggled to remove them after she came home from a party.

After finally taking them out, and in a lot of pain, she went to hospital. Doctors revealed she had ripped off the top layer of her corneas, which made her vision go blurry. She now fears her sight may be permanently damaged.

Ms Cavanagh said: "I've never felt pain like it. It was like someone was pouring bleach into my eyes."

The lenses were supplied by fancy dress company Smiffys and a spokeswoman said the firm had suspended sales of the contact lenses while they carried out an investigation with the manufacturers.
