WORK is to start on a wind farm which attracted the wrath of naturalist David Bellamy.
Fallago Rig will run 48 turbines over the Lammermuir Hills in the Borders and is being masterminded by EDF Renewables.
Bellamy took part in a protest march in 2010, with campaigners saying it would destroy the last "unspoiled section" of the landscape.
EDF Renewables said it was proud to deliver the project, which has capacity to power the equivalent of 90,000 homes.
Christian Egal, chief executive of EDF Energy Renewables, said: "We are proud to deliver this landmark development, a clear demonstration of our ability to handle very large-scale projects. With more than 400MW of onshore wind energy in operation and one offshore wind project in the final stage of construction, EDF Energy Renewables has become a major player in the UK."
A public inquiry was held into the wind farm with it winning final approval by Scottish ministers in 2010.
Approval was granted after the Ministry of Defence withdrew its application subject to a mitigation scheme to protect activity at Brizlee Wood Air Defence Radar Installation.
