Worries over scheme to help tenants

CONCERNS have been raised over the effectiveness of a new scheme to stop landlords withholding millions of pounds in deposits, with almost two-thirds of tenants unaware of it.

From today, all landlords and letting agents must sign up to the scheme, under which deposits are held by independent third parties who also provide dispute resolution if agreement over their return cannot be reached.
