A body has been found, hours after wreckage was discovered in the search for a man who vanished in his homemade boat.

The discovery was made today after rescuers went out again off the Outer Hebrides to look for him.

The man, who has not been named, left Brevig on the Isle of Lewis at 7am on Tuesday.

Concerned relatives called the coastguard when he had not returned more than 12 hours later.

He did not give details of where he intended to go and does not have a radio or mobile phone with him, Stornoway Coastguard said.

The three-metre boat is blue and black and has an outboard motor.
