Young people are to speak out against sexualisation and the porn industry at a major conference in Glasgow today.

The Women's Support Project, Rape Crisis Scotland and Rape Crisis Centre Glasgow are hosting the event which will be held at the Thistle Hotel which aims to examine the sexualisation of young people, children and young peoples access to pornography and their sexual exploitation.

Among the issues to be raised is "Sexting", where young people are encouraged to send and receive indecent images of themselves.

Delegates at the conference will include almost 200 representatives education, social work, sexual and mental health services and Police Scotland, along with child protection experts and staff from organisations working against violence against women.

Young people will be discussing their experiences of peer pressure and porn or sexual imagery.

Linda Thompson of Glasgow-based Women's Support Project said: "This is the time for courageous conversations in Scotland, not only on what we can do to prevent abuse of young people by adults and peers in both the on and offline worlds but also to challenge influences from the sex industry into our mainstream culture."
