SINGER Claire Hastings has been named Young Traditional Musician of the year 2015.

The Scots artists, originally from Dumfries, took the crown on Sunday at the grand final of the BBC Radio Scotland competition, held as part of the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow.

Ms Hastings, who was awarded a first class honours degree in Scottish Music from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2011, receives a recording session with BBC Scotland, the chance to perform at the Scots Traditional Music Awards and one year's membership of Musicians Union.

The other finalists included Ainsley Hamill, Gemma Donald, Heather Downie, Ryan Young and Seamus O Baioghill.

They all receive a year's membership of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland and will all take part in the association's Young Traditional Tour.
