CELEBRITIES have offered their support to a Scottish musician's fundraising appeal which has raised almost £20,000 for a cancer charity.
Carey Lander, a keyboard player with Glasgow indie band Camera Obscura, was diagnosed with rare bone cancer osteosarcoma in 2011 and is now raising funds for Sarcoma UK.
The 33-year-old appeared to be in remission, but discovered in May that the cancer had spread and is likely to be inoperable.
Her campaign on JustGiving has been shared on Twitter by stars including TV presenter Dermot O'Leary, Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos and radio DJ Lauren Laverne.
Ms Lander said: "Since my diagnosis in 2011, it has crossed my mind lots of times to do some kind of fundraising.
"So many excellent people do brilliant things for charity and respond to their personal traumas with a notion to help others, but to be honest that's never really been something I'd felt like getting involved with.
"I hoped that beyond the support of friends and family, the people for whom the music of Camera Obscura has meant something would also feel inspired to donate something, and potentially I could reach a lot of people."
The musician first received her diagnosis two weeks before her 29th birthday and was forced to take a break from music.
After a year-and-a-half off, during which the remaining members of Camera Obscura waited for her to recover, the band began touring the UK and US.
However, last summer Ms Lander was told that the cancer had returned.
Writing on the JustGiving page she added: "Sadly I don't think my future is going to be very extensive. I'm pretty ill and things are progressing fast.
"I'm just very glad that I decided to take the step of setting up the JustGiving page as it's been a real source of comfort to me and my friends and family in the last few weeks, and I hope it will allow the Sarcoma UK charity to bring some hope to others."
Ms Lander has her sights set on raising a total of £25,000 for the charity.
A spokesman for Sarcoma UK said they were "blown away" by the amount raised.
