Doctor Who could soon be getting the Oscar-winning touch after Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson hinted he could be taking the helm for one episode.

Jackson posted a parody video on his Facebook page today.

The video features the director of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies polishing his Oscars, while Peter Capaldi, who plays the twelfth incarnation of the Timelord, dashes around, waving an email from Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat under Jackson's nose.

Capaldi then tries to badger Jackson into getting involved in the hit sci-fi series.

Jackson posted the video, which also stars his daughter, with the caption: "An interesting weekend."

The video has already been viewed over 1.8m times since it was posted seven hours ago. It has also been liked over 46,000 times.

Jackson is a life-long Doctor Who fan and appeared in The Fiveish Doctors alongside Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy for the show's 50th anniversary.

McCoy also starred as Radagast the Brown in The Hobbit trilogy.
