The Scottish actress Karen Bartke and actress Monica Dolan have both been successful for their roles in BBC Scotland radio productions at the annual Audio Drama Awards.

Bartke, who plays the desk sergeant Karen Anne Millar in the BBC Scotland comedy Scot Squad, won the award for Best Debut performance for My Name Is… by Sudha Bhuchar, directed by Philip Osment and produced by Bruce Young.

Bartke played Suzy in a drama based on the true story of the alleged abduction in 2006 of a young Scottish Pakistani girl.

Monica Dolan, who has previously won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress as Rosemary West in the ITV drama Appropriate Adult and also played Tracey Pritchard in the BBC satire W1A, won Best Actress for Vincent in Brixton by Nicholas Wright, produced and directed by Gaynor Macfarlane.

Dolan played the part of widowed landlady Ursula with whom artist Vincent van Gogh boarded in Brixton in the 1870s.

Both dramas were produced and broadcast on Radio 4 last year.

Jeff Zycinksi, head of radio at BBC Scotland, said: "These awards for Monica and Karen are very well deserved and bring great credit to our BBC Scotland radio drama team led by Bruce Young in Pacific Quay.

"They work with some of the very best writing and acting talent and the reaction of our audiences has been heartwarming."
